The Kensington resident has been taking part in the Avon Descent since 1985 and said it was the adrenalin rush that kept him going.
Mr Bolvary competes in the power dinghy 10hp sports craft section and said a lot of preparation was required before the race.
Preparation includes building boats, preparing and strengthening the race motor and ensuring all safety equipment is in good working order.
Mr Bolvary is also the commodore of the West Coast Dinghy Racing Club in Mandurah.
He said he was looking forward to ‘pulling a place’ at this year’s Avon Descent and promoting the club.
