Residents concerned over decommission plans

Staff ReporterSouthern Gazette

On December 17, the City of Belmont will vote on the Perth Airport and City’s joint vision plan for Development Area 6 (DA6), which encompasses the residential zone west of the Tonkin and Great Eastern highway intersection near the Domestic Terminal.

Residents living in the DA6 area have formed the Coolgardie Residents Group in the hope of changing the plan’s proposal to close Brearley Avenue, which currently services traffic to the Domestic Terminal, and open Coolgardie Avenue as the main entry point into the residential neighbourhood and a key link to the proposed Airport West train station.

Last month, a 54-signature petition was submitted to the City of Belmont opposing the changes to Coolgardie Avenue. Residents hope the council will consider alternatives to save their street.
