Rivervale bottle shop staff threatened by man with machete

A MAN has been charged after allegedly threatening bottle shop staff in Rivervale with a machete before taking off with a sum of money.

About 7.25pm yesterday, a man drove a Holden Commodore sedan through the drive-thru of a bottle shop attached to a bar on Great Eastern Highway.

It is alleged the man threatened staff with a machete and drove off after being given a sum of cash.

This morning, at about 1.20am, the car was spotted by police officers in Heathridge.

It is alleged the driver failed to stop and attempted to escape from police pursuit.

A short time later the car was stopped by police on Ocean Reef Road in Joondalup and the driver was taken into custody.

A 28-year-old Clarkson man was charged with two counts of drive unregistered vehicle; two counts of no authority to drive; ne count of armed robbery; one count of stealing; reckless driving to escape pursuit; possess prohibited drug; and fail to stop.

He is due to appear in Perth Magistrates Court today.
