Salter Point resident Evelyn “Effie” Hamilton celebrates 107th birthday

SALTER Point resident Evelyn “Effie” Hamilton received her seventh letter from Queen Elizabeth II on January 28 to mark her 107th birthday.

For her birthday celebration,on February 7, the former dressmaker, ballroom dancer and bowling enthusiast enjoyed a high tea at BaptistcareGracewood Residential Care.

While she may have been the oldest at the party, she shared the celebration with a number of other residents including her friend Pam Beard who celebrated her 102nd birthday, Peggy Morrissey who will be 101 in April and Nancy Ashton who is 95.

Ms Hamilton credits her longevity to a healthy lifestyle, lots of dancing and the love of family, which now includes 11 grandchildren and more than 40 great and great-great grandchildren.

Baptistcare’s lifestyle co-ordinator Cecily Broomhall said residents liked to be occupied and were always eager for a chat.

“The staff love to hear their stories and their recollections,” she said.

“Our team members love going the extra mile on all occasions and take time to listen to the thoughts of the people they care for and help them meet their goals.”
