PHYSIOTHERAPY sessions have helped improve Ken Knox’s quality of life.

The Manning resident (92) and former Morse code technician in World War II could walk about only 50m before Silver Chain came in to help him in-home twice a week for the past six months.

“I couldn’t walk any long distance, I had some trouble in my knee, but now I can walk about 1.5km,” he said.

“I am very thankful I can still get out and about. I see other people my age and they are buggered.

“Before I received help from Silver Chain, I needed a wheelchair if I was going out for a long time.

“Now I’m confident walking again because Silver Chain has taught me some exercises to do at home on my own.”

Silver Chain physiotherapist Sam Stephens said: “We usually do an initial assessment and then put together an individualised program.

“We’ve been working on his balance, as well as doing different exercises to improve his strength.

“Some of the exercises can be done on his bed, sitting or standing.”

Mr Knox said he joined a post office and learnt Morse code before joining the Royal Australian Air Force.

“I got a great deal of satisfaction from the job,” he said.

Silver Chain’s physiotherapy sessions can be accessed through a State Government-subsidised Home and Community Care package or a Federal Government-subsidised Home Care Package.

They are also available on a fee-for-service basis.
