Travelsmart Program at St Augustine’s a Winner

The program aims to reduce the number of children who are driven to school by promoting active travel alternatives like walking, cycling and catching public transport.

City of Belmont Mayor Phil Marks presented the award at the school’s Walk Safely to School Day event.

“The Double Platinum level in the TravelSmart to School program is the highest possible award and only one other school has achieved this,” he said.

“I am pleased to say the other school to achieve this level is Redcliffe Primary School, and it is a wonderful achievement to have the top two schools in the TravelSmart Program in Belmont.”

Cr Marks encouraged all primary schools in the Belmont area to support the program.

“St Augustine’s Primary is setting a great example for other schools by reducing the number of cars on the local streets, making it safer for children to choose active ways to get to school,” he said.
