AN award-winning South Perth finance broker with more than 40 years of experience has credited long-term quality customer service for the awards he has received.

Sam Sapienza said the best parts of his job were interacting with clients and the long-term contact with his customers.

Finance Brokers Association of Australia awarded Mr Sapienza the FBAA Awards of Supremacy 2018 WA Finance Broker of the Year in November.

“You look after the customers and the customers come back to you and that creates your business,” he said.

“My first customer has been with me for 20 years.”

Mr Sapienza said he has worked in finance since he was 18 years old.

“My first job was licking stamps and envelopes for a bank in Donnybrook,” he said.

Mr Sapienza worked in Westpac and an Italian merchant bank before he opened Sapienza Finance in 1998.

Sapienza Finance has been on Lyall Street for 20 years but had moved around until settling on number 17 a decade ago.

Mr Sapienza said finance brokers got a bad reputation in the media but in using one, clients didn’t have to visit multiple banks to ask about loans and rates.

“Unfortunately on TV shows, they condemn brokers or banks but most of the people would be happy with the service provided,” he said.

“Instead of going to three or four banks, the advantage of a broker is we can do that for you and it doesn’t cost any extra.

“It’s hard work and it requires a lot of commitment but I enjoy it.”
