South Perth man charged over Rivervale business fire

ARSON Squad officers have charged a South Perth man who allegedly started a fire at his business in Rivervale last night.

About 6.15pm last night, emergency services responded to a fire at the premises on Great Eastern Highway.

A 41-year-old man was found at the front of the building and was arrested at the scene before being taken to Royal Perth Hospital for a health assessment.

It is alleged the man, who is the owner of the premises, started a fire inside the building and failed to extinguish it or alert emergency services.

He has been charged with breach of duty under Section 444A and will appear before the Perth Magistrates Court today.
