AFTER more than 22 years, Patrick Flanagan’s dream to publish a memoir has been realised.

The 92-year-old, a World War II veteran who served in the Arctic Convoys, began recording his life journey in 1995.

But in May, Mr Flanagan shared his short manuscript with Bethanie South Perth volunteer Cinta Hermawan, so beginning the project of fulfilling his wish to get it published for his family to remember him.

“My mother told me it was Patrick’s dream to get his memoir published, and as a literature graduate I couldn’t resist the request,” Mrs Hermawan’s daughter Madeline said.

“It has been an absolute pleasure reading his stories from the beautiful tale of how he met and fell in love with his wife as a 14-year-old boy to the details of his time serving in the British Navy.”

Bethanie South Perth will host a book launch on August 22.

Mr Flanagan said he could not wait to give a copy to each of his three daughters.
