South Perth scouts potential sites for aquatic facility

Nadia BudihardjoSouthern Gazette

CITY of South Perth is investigating funding opportunities and potential sites for a recreation and aquatic facility, with the business plan scheduled for submission to the council by July.

Mayor Sue Doherty said the city’s assessments had highlighted a number of potential sites near Curtin University.

“A large-scale sporting, recreation and aquatic facility located within the City of South Perth could service the needs of a wide catchment of the community,” she said.

“This business model would ensure viability as a functioning centre.”

Mayor Doherty and chief executive Geoff Glass visited Canberra to meet with federal politicians for pre-election support of the proposed facility in December.

City of South Perth Council voted to support the Recreation and Aquatic Facility feasibility project in the October council meeting last year.
