The City’s final draft submission to the Minister of Local Government will be considered at the 7pm meeting.
South Perth MLA John McGrath said the Robson Review outlined a number of amalgamation alternatives for the City of South Perth.
‘When I ask people for their views on these suggestions, including that South Perth be amalgamated with the City of Perth, most have been opposed,’ he said.
‘There is also a view that the Swan River should be used as a geographical boundary for any amalgamation and that the Town of Victoria Park or Town of Canning would be more logical partners for South Perth.’
He said the strongest opposition came from those who would not accept that the current City of South Perth be split up.
City of South Perth Mayor Sue Doherty said the City did not support recommendations that South Perth merge either wholly or in part with the City of Perth.
‘We do not see any community of interest factors with the City of Perth,’ she said.
‘The Robson Review is lacking in justification and evidence and fails to quantify the advantages, benefits and costings in relation to reducing the current number of metropolitan local governments from 30 to 12.’
