SOME of Perth’s sportiest seniors came to Belmont recently to show off their skills.
The LiveLighter Aged Care Games were held at the Belmont Oasis Leisure Centre, with participants from across the metropolitan area taking part in seated hockey, pass ball, bean bag toss and skittles.
The Games started back in 2003, with thousands of people in care – right up to 104 years old – getting together for team camaraderie, gentle competition and a fun day of social interaction.

READ NOWGroups were hard at work well before the big day, working on team theme uniforms, flags and signs to score the ‘Best Presented Team’ award.
“Isolation is one of the big risks for older residents in care, but this event is an exemplar for the power of belonging to a ‘team’ and how that keeps us engaged and connected to our broader community,” Belmont MLA Cassie Rowe said.
“It’s fantastic that Belmont could host this year’s successful event and I hope that we can host many more in the future.”
The program is run by the Seniors Recreation Council of WA, and is supported by the Department of Sport and Recreation and Department of Communities.
