Start of story for laneway activation

The fully-lit mural will be the focus of Laneway Launch, a street party hosted by the Vic Park Collective (VPC) and several community sponsors ” including the Southern Gazette ” to officially herald and promote mural activation in the Town.

Sheryo gave us an insight into the mural via email, saying she and The Yok wanted to draw Falkor their way after recently watching the movie, which is based on the novel by Michael Ende.

‘We also found out that we were painting a wall near many Asian restaurants, so we put two and two together and came up with an Asian-influenced Falkor dragon,’ she wrote.

‘Much like a lot of our work, an east meets west kind of influence since I am Singaporean and Yok’s Australian.

‘The colour palette is also influenced by our stay in Cambodia and south-east Asia, our signature red, white, black and gold. We have been experimenting with putting patterns in our work and this piece is one of our new favourites!’

Event organiser Lisa Bowden, from the Collective, said the launch would be an opportunity for people to enjoy the artwork while networking with friends, businesses and other community organisations.

Adding to the funky atmosphere will be music by the Systematic DJ Crew and live art by emerging Perth street artist RLSM who, with his contemporaries Ferly and PotionX, will complete a new mural on the rear outside wall of the Precinct Bar on Saturday.

The laneway is between IGA and Ten Ten Kitchen, 852 Albany Highway. The launch is from 7-10pm. For more details visit vicparkcollective.com or facebook.|com/VicParkCollective.
