VICTORIA Park’s Stephen Best plans to run 190km this year on his mission to raise $5000 for Guide Dogs WA.
Mr Best will kick off his yearlong fundraising venture this Sunday at the HBF Run for a Reason.
For the first time, runners who Jog 4 A Dog at this event will be raising funds to sponsor their own Guide Dog puppy.
“Guide Dogs WA provides such a great service to those in need, so that, along with my partner’s and my love for dogs, made it the perfect combination,” Mr Best said.
The keen runner has amped up his running schedule as his first event draws closer.
Mr Best runs five days a week, breaking one day up with cross-training at distances of anywhere from 18km to 32km per session.
“Running for me helps clear my mind and switch off,” Mr Best said.
“It’s such a wonderful experience running along Riverside Drive as the dolphins are swimming alongside, it makes me feel alive and thankful for the things I have.”
Mr Best said he was proud to be contributing to a cause that was important to him.
“It’s a great feeling knowing I’m contributing to making a difference in someone else’s life,” he said.
“It may not be massive, but a small contribution helps make a bigger difference.”
The fundraising total is currently at $315.50.
It takes two years and costs more than $35,000 to train a Guide Dog.
