Survivor hikes it for cure

The bartender and small business operator is the director of Cape to Cure, a charity whose inaugural event will be a 135km six-day hike from Cape Naturaliste south to Cape Leeuwin.

But it won’t be a gentle bushwalk. Mr Shugg, who lost his grandfather to cancer and has won his own fight with the disease, said the event would be more like an adventure.

‘Whether you tackle the whole six-day adventure or you trek one of the two half-track walks, whether on your own or in a team, the faint-hearted need not apply,’ Mr Shugg said.

‘I chose Cancer Council WA as the beneficiary for this event this year because just like the rest of Australia, my family has been struck by cancer and it has affected me personally in many ways.’
