Swine’s time to shine

Early last Sunday morning, Don Keeley from Willetton was taking a walk in the park while visiting his niece and nephew when suddenly a pig began nuzzling his leg and followed him home.

Luke Freeman said he was surprised when his uncle appeared at the front door with the well-behaved pig and all the neighbours popped their heads out to visit the animal, which they tied up in their front yard.

The pig then refused to budge, despite the efforts of City of Belmont rangers, and settled in the front yard, receiving pats and orange slices from intrigued locals.

After hours searching for its owner on social media and through animal welfare agencies, the pig was claimed by a delighted young man who whisked it off in his ute.

The event has left many scratching their heads at how a pig came to be wandering the streets of Belmont or what the animal’s name was, while some people nicknamed it Miss Piggy and Babe.
