TAB to be sold off

Susanne ReillySouthern Gazette

This was detailed in the State's 2015-16 Budget, announced last week.

Premier Colin Barnett supports the sale. "The decision to pursue a sensible program of asset sales will enable the Government to build new infrastructure to support growth without putting further pressure on the State's finances," he said.

Treasurer Mike Nahan said while the 2014-15 State Budget showed a projected operating deficit of $1.3 billion, this would fall to $788 million when the Federal Government's $499 million for road infrastructure flowed to the State.

"This is a good outcome for Western Australia. We will build the Forrestfield line, we will get the rolling stock and reduce debt," he said.

Belmont MLA Glenys Godfrey said she would not support the sale.
