This was detailed in the States 2015-16 Budget, announced last week.
Premier Colin Barnett supports the sale. The decision to pursue a sensible program of asset sales will enable the Government to build new infrastructure to support growth without putting further pressure on the States finances, he said.
Treasurer Mike Nahan said while the 2014-15 State Budget showed a projected operating deficit of $1.3 billion, this would fall to $788 million when the Federal Governments $499 million for road infrastructure flowed to the State.
This is a good outcome for Western Australia. We will build the Forrestfield line, we will get the rolling stock and reduce debt, he said.
Belmont MLA Glenys Godfrey said she would not support the sale.
I am yet to be convinced that the sale of the TAB is in the best interests of the racing industry in Western Australia, considering that the main reason for its existence is to guarantee investment into racing infrastructure, she said.
