Teenage window washer charged with handbag theft

POLICE have charged a 16-year-old boy over the alleged theft of a handbag from a car after he and another boy had washed its windscreen at traffic lights.

Police say that at about 11am last Tuesday a woman was stopped at the traffic lights at the corner of Wright Street and Orrong Road.

Two boys approached her vehicle and started washing the windscreen.

Police allege one of the boys opened the passenger side door and stole a handbag before running from the area.

The bag was recovered by a member of public and returned to the woman.

A 16-year-old boy from Cloverdale has been charged with one count of stealing and he is due to appear in Perth Children’s Court on Friday July 12.

He was also issued a juvenile caution over the window washing.

A 13-year-old boy from Kewdale also received a juvenile caution over the window washing.
