The Base gives young people a place to meet, eat and chat while giving them access to youth workers, case workers and a range of activities.

The City of Belmont’s partnership with YMCA aims to provide young people with access to highly trained and qualified youth workers, innovative programs and interesting activities in a supportive, safe and youth friendly space, Belmont Mayor Phil Marks said.

On April 20, The Base will open its doors to the public so community members can take part in some of the activities on offer.

The Base is a smoke, alcohol and drug-free venue and welcoming to young people of all abilities.

Drop-in and programs are available for young people aged 11 – 25 years who live in, or go to school in the City of Belmont.

Youth Centre manager David Reid said the Base was a great place to hang out with friends, meet new people, play video games and watch movies on the big screen.

Parents are welcome to come and visit The Base and speak to YMCAs friendly staff who can answer all your questions and let you have a first-hand look at where your teenagers hang out, he said.
