DADS and kids are set to descend on Subiaco Oval for one last hurrah before it shuts its doors.
The Fathering Project’s Big Camp Out is headed to the stadium on October 14, with fathers and their daughters and sons set to camp for a night of fun and bonding.
Kewdale’s Ben Harper, a father of two, is going with his daughter Lucca (6). Mr Harper is a big supporter of The Fathering Project.
After experiencing the group at one school, he brought it to East Victoria Park Primary.
“I think it’s fantastic. The dads and kids bonding is great,” Mr Harper said.
“The other main benefit is dads catching up. We don’t get a heck of a lot of time to get to know each other, it’s mostly mums who do school pick ups. I didn’t know a single dad in my daughter’s class. We have catch ups in The Fathering Project
“We touch on a lot of subjects, like techniques for fathering, how you can spend time with your kids one-on-one, and you can learn from other dads.”
Mr Harper said the Big Camp Out would be a fantastic send-off for the oval.
“As Eagles members, we’ve been to a couple of dozen games with Lucca, but to be out in the middle of the stadium with dads and kids running amok will be great.”
The event is designed for all fathers and father figures with their kids between five and 12.
A barbecue dinner and breakfast will be provided, with the event running from 3pm on Saturday, October 14, to noon on Sunday, October 15.
Fathers and children are encouraged to work together to prepare their camping equipment and board games for the night.
