Thieves injure dog during home burglary

A DOG has been seriously injured during a home burglary in Redcliffe on Saturday.

Around 7.20pm on February 15, three men driving a stolen white Nissan Navara utility forced their way into a house in Epsom Avenue.

Police said the Nissan was stolen from Karawara two hours before the break-in.

The men were all wearing balaclavas and one was armed with a sawn-off shotgun.

Inside the property, the man armed with the shotgun struck a 2-year-old Staffy x Bull Arab dog, causing a large facial laceration.

The men then stole cash and left in the Nissan, damaging the canopy as they left the scene.

The Nissan Navara was found abandoned in Cohn Street, Carlisle on Sunday.

Police said the dog has since been operated on and appears likely to recover.

At this time, an investigation is underway into the circumstances and police believe the incident is isolated and there is no concerns for broader public safety.
