Town of Victoria Park initiative creating career opportunities for young people

LOCAL organisations have teamed up with Town of Victoria Park to provide employment, training and education opportunities for young people.

Not-for-profit organisation AFL SportsReady is dedicated to helping young Australians develop careers through traineeships and educational opportunities.

Together with the Town and the Clontarf Foundation, young people throughout the community will be given the opportunity to further themselves in their chosen career.

Recent Sevenoaks Senior College graduate Dean Cooper (18) was the first to benefit from the partnership, having joined with the Town as a horticultural trainee a few weeks ago.

Over the next 18 months, Dean will study at TAFE and work across a variety of divisions within the Park Life team for hands on learning experience that will help him graduate with a Certificate III in horticulture.

“This is a fantastic three-way partnership, one that I’m particularly proud of and grateful to have the opportunity to support,” Town mayor Trevor Vaughan said.

“The personal outcomes for the individuals participating in the program are expected to be really positive, but it’s also a win-win for our community.”

Both AFL SportsReady and Clontarf Foundation are located in the Town and have supported more than 16,000 young people with education, life skills and employment prospects.
