IT is the special connections that three Big W employees have made that has kept them clocking in for 40 years.

Julie Smith, Colin Price and Teresa Mayers were original staff members when the store opened at Belmont Forum in February 1978 and today they celebrated four decades of hard work during a morning tea, attended by current and former staff.

Wattle Grove resident Mr Price said there had been a number of changes to the layout of the store and what they sold.

“I remember there used to be a snack bar in the store and we used to sell guns and bullets in the early ‘80s,” he said.

Cloverdale resident Mrs Mayers said the morning tea was like walking down memory lane.

“When I first started working here, I never would have thought I’d be here this long but it’s special,” she said.

Woodlands resident Mrs Smith said she wanted to work at the store to meet new people.

“It’s been great seeing familiar customers over the years and I’ve made some great friends,” she said.

“It’s nice to catch up with people who used to work here many years ago.”
