FRUSTRATED by her own experience to find a quality and stylish maternity dress to wear to a friend’s wedding, a Victoria Park resident was inspired to make a change.

Mother of two Nicole Cox-Bertoldo said she could not justify spending hundreds of dollars on a maternity dress she would only wear once.

To help other women in the same situation, her new business Belle of the Bump was born.

Belle of the Bump is a home business offering mothers-to-be maternity gowns and dresses to rent for special events.

Ms Cox-Bertoldo said while there were dozens of dress hire businesses in Perth, she could not find anything that catered for expecting mothers.

“I bought a couple of maternity dresses online but when they arrived they weren’t what I was looking for; the quality was poor or they weren’t comfortable during late pregnancy,” she said.

“I just couldn’t justify forking out hundreds of dollars for a dress I would only wear once or twice.

“Paying $300, $400 or $500 for a maternity dress can be restrictive for any expanding family, let alone when you will only get limited wear out of it.”

Ms Cox-Bertoldo’s business idea came to her when she realised other women would be in the same position.

“There really is a niche market of mums-to-be who see value in hiring special occasion wear, especially at a time when you don’t need added expense because you’re already decking out on all the baby needs,” she said.
