Victoria Park Arts Season to finish with Kent Street Karnival

Aaron CorlettSouthern Gazette

THE Victoria Park Arts Season will finish with a bang during the first ever Kent Street Karnival.

Drumming workshops, markets and art displays will make for a fun day at John MacMillan Park, Victoria Park Centre for the Arts and the East Victoria Park Family and Community Centre.

Victoria Park Centre for the Arts general manager and artistic director Clare Szmekura said she was hoping for as many people as possible to come to the event.

“The idea started at an information day when we had interest from artists and bands to do lots of little projects but we didn’t believe we could facilitate all the individual events,” she said.

“We are working with the East Victoria Park Family and Community Centre and the Vic Park Farmers Market to put it together.

“It’s a chance to celebrate.

“There will be an art jam, poetry, bands performing, drumming workshops and artwork displayed that was created during the Arts Season.”

Szmekura said there were hopes the event could grow into an annual fixture.

“The idea is to end the Arts Season on a high, while also giving people a taste about what happened during the past month,” she said.

“It’s also an opportunity for people to visit each of the venues and check out what happens at them.”
