Bronwyn DonovanSouthern Gazette

VICTORIA Park resident Savannah Monkhouse hopes to encourage women to be proud of each moment in life and not just one’s highlight reel.

The 23-year-old is one of six WA finalists who will compete in the Miss Universe Australia finals in Melbourne on June 22.

Following her high school graduation, Ms Monkhouse completed a hairdressing apprenticeship before deciding it was not her true passion.

In 2017, she enrolled to complete a Bachelors in Echocardiography and Cardiac Physiology.

“I wanted something that would help people and make a difference so I found out about medical imaging and eventually got into my course,” Ms Monkhouse said.

“But from a young age I have been involved in modelling and had many fond memories, laughing and just having fun.

“Before I decided to enrol in my course last year, I entered Miss West Coast to gain more confidence.

“I made it to the Top 24 and felt like there were so many girls out there that need a role model who was real and down to earth, who could encourage them and show them life is more than a highlight reel, which is how I ended up completing again this year.”
