A Main Roads spokeswoman said the State Government was committed to installing these signs at about 1070 public and private schools with a 40km/h school zone across WA over the next four years.
She said Wesley College met part of the criteria for priority installation.
‘This being a road that forms part of the 40km/h school zone that outside of school zone times is posted at 60km/h or greater. This road is Mill Point Road,’ she said.
In the two-year period until the end of 2013, the school zone at Wesley has had three car accidents, of which one required medical attention.
South Perth MLA John McGrath welcomed the installation of the safety lights.
‘The safety lights will increase driver awareness that they have entered a school zone and should reduce their speed accordingly,’ he said.
‘There is no doubt that these flashing signs will remove any confusion for motorists that they are in a 40km/h speed zone and must slow down. I know these lights will be appreciated by local parents.’
