The $256,000 allocation was the largest allocated in Western Australia for a joint animal care facility.
The existing facility will undergo a facelift to accommodate the housing of cats under new legislation introduced by the State.
From November 1, the State Government’s Cat Act 2011 will come into effect. Under the Act, all domestic cats need to be identified, registered and sterilised in an attempt to reduce the number of stray cats being euthanised and to encourage responsible cat ownership.
The new animal care facility will include increased accommodation for dogs, housing for cats and the relocation of the animal care office.
