Woman charged over elderly man’s carjacking

A WOMAN who allegedly robbed an elderly man’s car and caused severe injuries was arrested overnight.

An 80-year-old man parked his Mitsubish Lancer hatchback near the rubbish bins on Terminus Lane in East Victoria Park and was placing bins along the kerb for collection on July 23.

It is alleged the woman got into his car and sped off, causing the man to lose his balance, fall backwards and hit the ground as he tried to stop her.

Police said the man was taken to Royal Perth Hospital for treatment to a laceration across his eyebrow, requiring stitches, abrasion and blister injuries to his right leg.

The man sustained fractures in his left leg and a finger on his left hand and would need plastic surgery to treat his head and leg injuries.

Police said the 24-year-old woman from East Victoria Park was found and taken into custody last night.

The woman is facing charges of aggravated robbery, stealing, stealing a motor vehicle and driving recklessly and failing to stop and ensure assistance after incident occasioning bodily harm.

She is due to appear at Perth Magistrates Court today.
