Mayor abusing her office

In the leaflet received in my letterbox on September 21, of Cr Brenda Martin, Mrs Godfrey openly states, ‘Glenys Godfrey MLA, State Member for Belmont’, and they are pictured together.

In my view, it is an outrageous abuse of political office for a member of parliament to seek to influence the outcome for a favoured candidate in a local government election, and it is disadvantaging the other candidates who possibly have no political party connections.

I also believe Mrs Godfrey’s actions can split our community along political party lines and in doing so denigrates her office by seemingly attempting to ensure that our council is political party controlled.

Unless Premier Barnett strongly and publicly censures this MLA, we can only assume that he endorses Glenys Godfrey’s intrusion into local government elections.
