IT appears as though council amalgamation will now become a reality.
As a result, the quest for a new name for the merged South Perth and Victoria Park councils is now on the agenda.
I, for one, do not believe that we need to move too far at all in searching for an acceptable name for the new entity.
While Victoria Park is, I understand, older then its next-door neighbour, retention of the name South Perth is both sensible and practical.
The name emphasises and embodies our geographical location in Perth, is immediately recognisable and unambiguous and will contribute to the notion of the ‘bigger picture’ as being promoted by the Barnett Government.
For me, it’s South Perth. I see no reason to look beyond the obvious.
