WITH the recent debate stirring again regarding the burqa, there are a few things that need to be highlighted.
Being an Ahmadi Muslim woman, I can confirm that Islam has given women the right to education, right of inheritance, right to divorce, right to her opinions and disagreements. Often culture is misunderstood as religion.
Wearing the black burqa is one of them. Women can choose any colour.

If this was the case, then why do Muslim women from different countries wear different colours and styles of burqa?
Calls for banning the burqa are ludicrous because the basic right of freedom of expression and speech is also violated.
The Holy Quran, a copy of which can be found at www.alislam.org, states that first men are commanded to restrain their eyes and then women are commanded to restrain their eyes and cover their beauty (24:31-32).
This commandment is for the strengthening of family units and a stronger and progressive society where there is inner peace of hearts.
