Recycling safe

Staff ReporterSouthern Gazette

I have heard experts say smoking was good for you; asbestos did you no harm and seatbelts in cars made you no safer. Now I’m told waste-to-energy plants are safe.

Burning waste puts dangerous nano particles in the air so small we can’t even measure them. We also get dioxins that cause birth defects and miscarriages.

Even after the waste is burnt, there is around 30 per cent toxic ash left that will end up in landfill.

We as a community can recycle 70 per cent of waste with ease but we need leadership from councils, not hindrance.
