In last week’s Southern Gazette, I was quoted as saying ‘As a councillor, you should vote without fear or favour. We vote with what we want, what the council wants’, which is not correct and does not make sense as I did not vote with the other councillors due to community feedback.
What I actually said was: ‘This is an issue that will split the residents and council. I remember when I first got on council someone saying that as a councillor you should be able to vote without fear or favour’.
Editor’s note: The Gazette stands by the comments reported and attributed to Cr Janet Gee in its October 8 edition, and taken from the City of Belmont’s October 2 meeting.
