Silent cyclists

ON Tuesday I was taking my dog for her usual walk about 7am on South Terrace approaching the intersection of Hayman Road and George Street when I was alerted to a group of cyclists on either side of us. One young lad went on the side of the road, putting his life in danger.

On turning around, there were two more behind. I stopped and let the female cyclist go ahead and she was the only one who at least acknowledged this by thanking me.

However, not one of the five cyclists rang their bell. I am concerned that if this is going to be the norm, I could visualise many minor/major accidents, especially on this very busy intersection.

Many mums and dads with pushers and dogs use this path regularly. Perhaps widening of footpaths may resolve this problem.
