Unkempt Perth

Jim Dawson, KewdaleSouthern Gazette

The lawns and verges were kept tidy and it was a pleasure to look everywhere.

On arriving home in Perth, we were greeted with unkempt lawns and wild oats growing everywhere on verges.

I do my part by mowing lazy neighbours’ verges, but the councils need to take a carrot and stick approach to clean up our city. Why not give incentive and prizes for the best street in the suburb or fines for landlords who do not spend five minutes mowing a verge?

Too often I hear the excuse it’s not my lawn, why should I mow it?
