“It was great to win in Queensland on the national stage,” he said.

‘The race went according to plan; I felt comfortable in both the swim and the bike, went out hard in the run and carried it to the finish line.”

Five years ago Luke finished 23rd in the junior male division, but he slowly improved in rankings over the years to become number one in 2016.

His next challenge is the PSA Cross Country competition, where he will continue to hone his running skills in preparation for the coming triathlon season.

He said he aimed to place in the top five at the national under 20 series next season, with an ultimate goal to represent Australia in the ITU Under-20 World Championships.
