Basketball: mixed SBL results for Perth Redbacks men and women

THERE were mixed results for the Perth Redbacks on the weekend as the women’s team won while the men’s side were defeated.

In the first game of the double header with the East Perth Eagles at Belmont Oasis on Saturday night, the clinical women’s team dominated 105-57.

Kayla Standish was terrific for the Redbacks with 29 points and 15 rebounds on 11-19 shooting from the field.

Jess Hughes added 14 points for Perth, with Makailah Dyer contributing 17 points, five rebounds and five assists, Mikayla Pirini 11 points, eight assists, six steals and four rebounds, and Jess Jakens contributed 11 points, seven rebounds and three assists.

In the men’s game, the Redbacks went down to the Eagles 87-94.

East Perth pulled away in the second quarter, outscoring Perth 28-11 before then holding on for the seven-point triumph.

Eagles import Jonathan Morse put in another impressive performance with 28 points, 12 rebounds, three steals and two assists.

Shawn Redhage produced 28 points, six rebounds and three assists for the Redbacks on 10-17 shooting from the field and 7-8 from the foul line.
