Basketball: Perth Redbacks starts SBL title defence with win

THE Perth Redbacks’ men’s team enjoyed a stellar start to their title defence with two wins in the opening round of the State Basketball League.

On Friday night they defeated Lakeside Lightning 102-88 at Belmont Oasis, with Maurice Barrow nabbing 33 points.

Cairns Taipans player Alex Loughton scored an impressive 23 points.

Earlier in the night, the Redbacks’ women’s team went down to Lakeside 73-84, although Mikayla Pirini and Kayla Standish both scored 18 points.

The Redbacks’ men’s team took down the Geraldton Buccaneers 100-81 on Saturday at Belmont Oasis.
