A COMO resident is travelling all the way to the USA to run in the famous New York City marathon to support beyondblue.
Qantas Lounge Perth Airport chef Jeremy Sims will be hanging up his chef’s jacket in favour of running shoes when he attempts the 42km run in November.
Sims said the idea of taking part for charity came to him while he was travelling.
“I haven’t done a marathon before, but I’ve been to New York and both times I was there I saw the marathon going and thought it would be great to give it a go,” he said.
“I want to do it for beyondblue because mental illness is affecting more and more people and it doesn’t discriminate.
“Beyondblue is such a great cause and they do a fantastic job to help people who need it.”
Sims has already attracted more than $6000 in donations.
“The support I’ve received is fantastic. I’m not nervous to run it, I’m just excited to fulfil my promise to all the people who have donated,” he said.
Sims has been hitting the pavement as early as 4.30am to sneak in a run before work.
“At the moment, I’m trying to do between 15 and 20km to build some stamina, and as we get closer to the day I’ll increase it,” he said.
