Aaron CorlettSouthern Gazette

VICTORIA Park talent Piepa Cleary held her nerve at the death as the Governor General’s XI defeated South Africa by two wickets in Sunday’s annual tour match in Sydney.

The 20-year-old fast bowler, who will play for the Perth Scorchers in the Women’s Big Bash League, was selected for the representative game after her performances for WA in the Women’s National Cricket League.

Cleary (1 not out) was in the middle alongside the mainstay Beth Mooney (95 not out) as the Governor-General’s XI chased down the target of 7-203 with 11 balls to spare.

Earlier, Cleary, who plays her club cricket with South Perth, opened the bowling and was economical with 0-31 from eight overs.
