Peel Thunder win over undermanned Perth Demons

PEEL Thunder continued their impressive form this season with a comfortable win over an undermanned Perth Demons side at Rushton Park on Saturday.

It was Thunder that kicked the first goal through former Demon Gerald Ugle in the opening minutes.

Thunder were well in control early on with regular Fremantle Dockers Zac Clarke, Paul Duffield and Tendai Mzungu all combining well in the centre of the ground.

The home side made good use of the breeze in the opening term and took an advantage of 20 points into the quarter time break after kicking 4.4 to the Demons’ 1.2.

The second term saw the Demons slowly work their way back into the match through the hard work of Adian Tropiano and Liam McKenna, who were picking up important touches in the midfield. They managed a couple of goals through Brennan Stack and Mitch Morton, who were both lively up forward, but Thunder steadied close to half time through Matthew Taberner to lead by 16 points at half time.

The second half saw Thunder ascertain their ascendancy on the match with a significant height advantage over their opponents all over the ground. The Demons could only score one goal for the term while the Thunder piled on 7 goals to set up a commanding lead at the final break.

The last quarter saw the Demons certainly fight the match out with Brent Latch along with both Tropiano and McKenna in the thick of the action but once again scoring options were few and far between with Thunder well on top in the back line.

The final winning margin of 62 points was certainly disappointing for Demons fans with the side lacking a considerable amount of height with both their regular ruckman in Christian Eyres and Ben Power still out injured.

The usual suspects played well for the Demons with both Tropiano and Mckenna continuing their outstanding form in the midfield, but as has been the case all season Perth lacked key marking targets up in their forward line.

Next week Perth Demons have a bye and then return home to Lathlain Park to play the Falcons.
