Football: Perth Angels forward picked in extended WA under-18s squad

PERTH Angels forward Megan Whittington has been named in the 35-player WA squad for the upcoming AFL Under-18 Youth Girls National Championships.

The players, selected from the WA Women’s Football League (WAWFL), will undertake an intensive training program in the lead up to games in May and July.

This will include a trial match against the Mundella State Under-23 Women’s team as a curtain raiser to the West Coast Eagles v Western Bulldogs AFL game at Domain Stadium tonight and a hit-out against East Fremantle’s senior women’s team on July 2.

A jumper presentation will be held at Domain Stadium on Monday May 15 before a team is selected to travel to Sydney for the opening two games against NSW/ACT and Queensland on May 20 and 21.

The players will return to their WAWFL clubs following these games and then resume under-18s squad training on June 26 before departing for Queensland on July 9 for another three National Championship games in the space of five days.
