Girls put boot into footy

The girls are part of the Manning Rippers football club team taking part in the new modified rules competition for girls aged nine to 12, introduced by the WA Football Commission.

The competition involves 12 clubs from across Perth and aims to provide a path- way for girls into women’s AFL.

Rippers junior president Brad Coopes said the eight-week season would be played under a non-contact, modified AFL rules format.

‘Games will be played at different venues around the metropolitan area, Manning will host round two on June 2,’ he said.

‘The end of season culminates in a half time fixture at Subiaco Oval during Women’s AFL week.’

The season starts on May 26, training has started and is on Thursday afternoons at James Miller Oval.

The club is encouraging as many girls as possible to participate and join in.
