Gridiron: Perth Blitz no match for Curtin Saints

Aaron CorlettSouthern Gazette

THE second round of the 2016-17 Gridiron West season had the Perth Blitz as the first club off the ranks with the early Saturday games.

At midday once again at Anniversary Park in Rockingham, the Junior Blitz set off at a cracking pace, putting up 4 TDs against the Saints, resulting in a 30-6 scoreline.

Munyaradzi “Munya” Matema ran in all of those touchdowns.

The Senior side could not match the efforts of the Juniors; after the stout defence from the week before against the Vipers, the Blitz secondary got hammered with lots of aerial work from the Saints, resulting in a blowout scoreline of 34-0.

While the Blitz offence looked more potent this week with more movement in the middle of the field, they lacked in the ability to convert.

This week will no doubt see a lot of analysis as they regroup to take on the Steelers for Round 3.
