Canoeing WA Development Officer Zac Acott said of the 168 paddlers entered in the competition, half are from WA but the 31.4km river course has also attracted competitors from overseas. Among those competitors will be Josh Kippin from Bayswater who won silver at the national marathons last year in the under-22s, which was held at Mooloolaba in Queensland.

Mr Kipping began paddling competitively in 2004 after starting out as a junior at Ascot Kayak Club.

Adding to his list of achievements last year he was the State K2 Marathon Champion, K1 Open Slalom Champion and the Down River Champion.
