Gymnast Emily Little has tumbled and flipped her way back from the Australian Gymnastics Championships in Melbourne with a haul of medals, cementing a successful comeback to the sport.
Little won gold in the vault, silver in floor and bronze in beam to secure second place in the all-round and a spot to compete in an international friendly in Spain later this month.
Little was proud of the results after she took 18 months off from the sport after the 2012 London Olympic Games.
“Ever since I was 14 I knew I wanted to take a break after London,” she said. “I just wanted to be a normal teenager.”
But her desire to return was sparked after she saw her former teammates compete at the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games.
“I’m now one of the oldest girls at training whereas in London I was the youngest and that’s strange,” she said,
“The younger girls sometimes get nervous around me, like when I was younger and trained alongside Allana (Slater).
Little is the ambassador for Spirit Gym Sports, which will open a new branch in Belmont in July.
“It’s great for Belmont to have a gym like this and to get more kids participating in the sport,” she said.
