He has since been inducted into the Australian Racing Hall of Fame, establishing himself as one of the all-time greats in Australian racing history.

Accompanying Cassidy will be leading trainer Darren Weir and noted Melbourne Cup strapper Stevie Payne,

Victorian Racing Club chief executive Simon Love said he was thrilled to have Cassidy involved in this year’s tour.

“This year the Melbourne Cup Tour will continue to celebrate the stories intrinsically linked to the Melbourne Cup and its contribution to Australia’s cultural and historical heritage,” he said.

“What better way to celebrate is there than having racing royalty such as Jim Cassidy join the tour in Perth.”

Perth residents are encouraged to post images with the Cup to Instagram using #EmiratesMelbourneCup and #PeoplesCup for the chance to win a Myer shopping voucher.

The overall winner will receive a trip for two to Melbourne Cup Day.
