More Redbacks selected for SBL All-Star Game

Women’s captain Jess Jakens and shooter Rebecca Benson were added to the line-up that already includes teammate Ajay Jones.

Star import player Jourdan DeMuynck and long-time captain Joel Wagner were added to the squad from the men’s team.

Jakens has had one of her best seasons this year, averaging 14.45ppg with a 50.9 per cent shooting percentage and 9.45rpg.

In her debut season with the Redbacks, Benson has led the side in scoring with 17ppg, as well as being one of the league’s best distributors with 4.5apg, 3.9rbg and 87 per cent success rate on free throws.

DeMuynck has averaged big numbers, including 26.5ppg, 10.2rpg and 4.28apg and has been one of the most dominant figures in the SBL 2016 season.

Having been leader of the club for years, Wagner has managed consistent numbers, including 13.1ppg, 5.64apg and 3.85rpg.

The All-Star Game pits the Northern All-Stars against the Southern All-Stars and will play at the Bendat Basketball Centre on Monday.

All money raised on the day will be donated to Lifeline WA.

n PERTH Redbacks SBL player Lisa Wallbutton is on a journey to compete in the Rio Olympics.

Earlier this month, Wallbutton was named one of the 14 players to be selected for the New Zealand Tall Ferns squad.

Wallbutton will take part in international touring matches throughout China and Europe, aiming to be selected for the final team.

The final squad will compete at an Olympic qualifying tournament in France next month.
