NOMINATIONS to join the likes of Dennis Lillee on the Town of Victoria Park’s fifth Sporting Walk of Fame are closing soon.

Since its inception in 2008, there have been 25 people recognised in a variety of fields including swimming, cricket, hockey and yachting.

This year inductees will be honoured by Mayor Trevor Vaughan at a special ceremony in May.

Potential nominees can be athletes, coaches, umpires and administrative staff as long as they have contributed or competed at an elite level in their chosen sport.

The Sporting Walk of Fame has celebrated a variety of sporting heroes, including local legend Barbara Chapman, who has been involved in water skiing for more than 50 years.

Ms Chapman, who was inducted in 2014, said sport played an important part in the Town’s vibrant community.

“It brings families and people together in what they love to do, regardless of race, colour or different upbringings,” she said.

Mr Vaughan said he was looking forward to inducting another round of worthy recipients.

“It’s an honour to be able to give recognition to people in our community who have contributed so much of their lives to their chosen sport” he said.

Nominations close at 4pm on Friday 16 March 2018 and can be made online via the Town’s website.
